Local Emergency Planning Committee
Purpose, Contact, and Officers
June 2006
Purpose
There are two purposes for the existence of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). The first is to involve the public in community emergency planning by development of a hazardous chemical emergency plan and to assess responder capabilities. The second purpose is to promote public awareness of chemical hazards within the county by:
- collecting and managing chemical data
- developing a mechanism for making this information available to area residents
- indirectly regulating facilities that house chemicals
The Franklin County LEPC is also charged with helping to taylor the Franklin County Emergency Preparedness Plan.
